Job Description

Content Specialist

FUNCTIONAL AREA:  Marketing

REPORTS TO :  Director, Content Strategy & Thought Leadership

LOCATION:   Remote, US only

Overview

The Content Specialist is an execution-focused member of the Content Team, responsible for producing the articles, newsletters, and repurposed assets that carry Richardson’s and Challenger’s ideas to sales, revenue, and enablement leaders. This role reports to the Director of Content Strategy & Thought Leadership and is designed to grow into ownership of recurring content production.

This is a foundational writing role for someone early in their content marketing career who is coachable, curious, and eager to build ownership over published work. The person in this role will support content production across both brands, with initial depth in:

  • Challenger-focused articles and other assets to support our growth goals, product launches and thought leadership strategy.

  • Newsletter content.

  • Repurposing published work into short-form assets across channels.

Coverage will expand over time into additional content formats, video, campaign support, and new channels.

Key Responsibilities

Article Writing & Production

  • Draft articles, downloads, and other content from supplied briefs, working in our established brand voice.

  • Turn briefs into first-pass outlines before drafting, and revise through editorial review.

  • Draft campaign email copy to agreed send dates.

  • Work with our digital team to optimize written content for readers and search, adding calls to action, related content, interesting graphics and videos wherever appropriate.

Subject Matter Expert Interviews & Research

  • Grow toward running your own interviews with internal subject matter and product experts — preparing the questions, leading the conversation, and following the thread when something interesting surfaces.

  • Turn each interview into finished content, and pull the quotes worth reusing elsewhere.

  • Gather source material, verify every statistic, and maintain a source list an editor can check.

Newsletter & Audience Development

  • Launch and own a recurring newsletter built to grow brand affinity with an earlier career Challenger audience, once you have the brand fluency to carry it.

  • Own the property end to end: assemble the lineup, write the framing and item copy, and hold a consistent point of view from issue to issue.

  • Form your own view on how the newsletter should evolve, then test it.

  • Report on how the newsletter is performing and what you are learning about that audience.

Repurposing & Distribution Support

  • Repurpose published articles into shorter formats, including social copy support, email teasers, and pull-quotes.

  • Coordinate with our Digital, Demand Generation, and Product Marketing colleagues so each asset is promoted properly across channels.

  • Propose content formats and channels we are not using yet, and make the case for them, including the audience you think they would reach.

  • Learn to pull and read individual performance and extract insights about our audience that informs our ongoing strategy.

Editorial Standards & Brand Voice

  • Build genuine fluency in the Richardson and Challenger brand voices, and learn to apply our style guides without prompting.

  • Flag inconsistencies in how we describe our methodologies, products, and proof points.

Content Operations & Coordination

  • Maintain the content calendar, keeping every asset’s status current and visible to the team.

  • File finished assets to convention so the team can find current, approved work.

  • Take on other content projects as our priorities shift.

  • Use our approved AI tools across your workflow — research, outlining, first-pass editing, and repurposing — to move faster without sacrificing quality.

  • Apply industry best practices, team standards, and your own judgment to decide where AI earns its place in a workflow and where it does not.

  • Share what you learn, so useful approaches become team practice rather than personal shortcuts.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; a major in journalism, English, communications, or a related field preferred.

  • Zero to two years of professional writing experience — internships, student publications, and freelance work all count.

  • Three to five writing samples, which need not be B2B or marketing.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, and clear, plain-spoken prose written for people rather than for search engines.

  • Interviewing experience, and the confidence to lead a conversation with a senior expert.

  • Practical fluency with AI writing and research tools, and a considered point of view on their limits.

  • Highly organized and reliable with deadlines, and quick to flag when a date is at risk.

  • Comfortable being edited, and curious about why an edit was made.

  • Demonstrated coachability and an ownership mindset — takes direction well, asks good questions, and takes pride in seeing work through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating or editing short-form video content, including scripting, presenting, editing, or producing.

  • Exposure to business, sales, or marketing topics, particularly familiarity with The Challenger Sale.

  • Exposure to B2B SaaS, professional services, or corporate learning and training environments.

  • Experience with website CMS platforms such as WordPress or HubSpot.

  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as Asana and SharePoint.

  • Working knowledge of SEO/AEO fundamentals and how content surfaces in AI-driven search.

What Success Looks Like

  • The Challenger voice is held by more than a small handful of people, and this person is one of them.

  • Article production runs at a steady cadence without the Director acting as the default drafting resource.

  • A new newsletter is live, carries a recognizable point of view, and is growing an audience we were not previously reaching.

  • This role can comfortably handle interviews with subject matter experts and synthesize the interviews for the rest of the team

  • AI is used routinely to compress production time, with no drop in editorial quality, and the approaches that work have been shared with the team.

  • We are publishing in at least one format, or on at least one channel, that we were not using before this role existed.
