: Date Opened: Thursday, June 05, 2025 12:00 AM Close Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025 12:00 AM Department: Charlotte Communications Department Salary: $63,605.87 - $79,507.34 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY Responsibilities includes work managed or performed across multiple Communications & Corporate Affairs sub-families. Specializations in this sub-family typically perform work related to both internal and external communications, including developing the content for and producing written and visual communications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Draft city leadership correspondence including talking points, speeches, briefing documents for press conferences, meetings, ceremonies and other special events.
  • Assist with media relations and public relations events.
  • Respond to and manage requests from media.
  • Support other city departments in responses to media requests or interview requests.
  • Contribute to proactive media pitching strategy.
  • Create daily reports for trending, city-related media stories.
  • Monitor and analyze local, regional and national media coverage for the city.
  • Stay informed of media trends and hot topics in local, regional and national outlets.
  • Support content development for social media and other digital channels.
  • Support public records requests process.
  • Attend city council meetings and other city meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate with departments within the city to develop stories for news outlets.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Graduate or Equivalent and three to five years relevant experience. Or Associate's Degree and one to three years relevant experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in communications/journalism or 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of government, agency, corporate, and/or consumer communications experience preferred.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team or individually.

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Must be flexible in dealing with changing priorities.
