Job Title: Coding Specialist
Reports to: Director of Revenue Cycle Management

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coding Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate claim processing, including coding, verifying payers, working denials and rejections, and posting payments. This role interacts with internal staff, patients, customers, vendors, and collections agencies to ensure billing is completed accurately and efficiently to maximize accounts receivable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enter correct ICD-10, CPT, and other required codes and modifiers on claims
Enter accurate charges based on payer regulations
Communicate professionally with customers
Work with payers to secure timely payment
Verify payer coverage using available resources
Maintain knowledge of payer regulations, filing deadlines, payment policies, and appeals processes
Represent the organization professionally at all times
Answer inbound calls from customers, vendors, and others
Communicate effectively with facilities, employees, and vendors
Work both independently and as part of a team while maintaining high standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of ambulance coding experience
Ability to work independently
Strong understanding of federal reimbursement guidelines
High level of computer proficiency
Excellent interpersonal skills
Service-oriented mindset
EDUCATION / LICENSING / CERTIFICATION:
Preferred: Current state certification as EMT, EMT-A, or Paramedic
Preferred: CAC certification
High school diploma required
Valid state driver’s license
