Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to support a busy legal practice in Knoxville, Tennessee. This contract opportunity offers the potential for a long-term role and is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who thrives in a fast-paced office and can manage financial activity across multiple locations. The role requires sound judgment, strong organization, and the ability to work closely with firm leadership while maintaining accurate records and timely transactions.

• Manage the full cycle of client invoicing, ensuring billing is prepared accurately and sent out on schedule.

• Record incoming funds, apply payments correctly, and maintain up-to-date accounts receivable information.

• Process electronic payments, prepare checks, and coordinate timely disbursement of firm expenses and obligations.

• Reconcile bank activity, client payments, and internal account balances to confirm financial accuracy.

• Oversee payable and bookkeeping tasks for the Knoxville office as well as additional firm locations as needed.

• Maintain organized financial documentation and update accounting data within legal billing platforms and Microsoft Excel.

• Prepare routine account tracking details and financial reports to support leadership with operational visibility.

• Work directly with Managing Partners and other stakeholders while handling sensitive financial information with discretion.

• At least 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a law firm or other detail-focused services setting.

• Hands-on background in accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payment processing.

• Experience completing account and bank reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for tracking, organizing, and reviewing financial data.

• Familiarity with legal billing or attorney-focused accounting software, including tools such as Clio or similar platforms.

• Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to handle multiple priorities independently.

• Clear communication skills and confidence working directly with senior leadership in an on-site environment.
